About Crown & Sterling
The Business
Crown & Sterling exists because the secondary watch market deserved a more principled approach.
Too often, private buyers encounter sellers who are long on confidence and short on documentation. We set out to do the opposite: to build a business around structured inspection, honest description, and a transaction experience that respects the intelligence of the buyer.
We are based in Leeds — a city with a longer tradition of independent commerce and quiet craft than it is sometimes given credit for. We operate without a public shopfront, working instead by appointment with private clients who prefer substance over spectacle.
What We Do
Our core activity is the buying and selling of fine watches, with an emphasis on Swiss mechanical pieces across a broad range of periods and price points. We also deal selectively in jewellery and rare collectables where we have sufficient confidence in provenance and condition.
Beyond direct dealing, we offer a small range of services to private clients: sourcing and finding specific references, managing consignment sales, arranging independent valuations, and brokering connections to trusted restoration workshops.
Who We Are
Crown & Sterling is founder-led and deliberately small. The business reflects a genuine, longstanding interest in horology — not a commercial calculation.
Fine watches reward the kind of attention that a large operation rarely has time to give. We are slow by design: slow to buy, slow to list, and unhurried in how we deal with clients. That approach is, we think, the correct one when the objects involved have taken decades to earn their reputation.
Leeds
We chose Leeds not by default, but because it suits us. The city has a strong tradition of independent dealing — in cloth, in silver, in antiques — and a client base that tends to know the difference between provenance and presentation.
We operate across the Yorkshire region and work with clients nationally by arrangement.
